Latin Academy
As the educated language of the west for the better part of the last two millennia, Latin continues as a mainstay of formative education for the minds, ears, and tongues of Covenant’s students.
The Purpose of Latin Academy
Of course, a rigorous curriculum in a classical, “dead” language could be a barrier for transferring students. Latin Academy aims to overcome that barrier while maintaining the high standards for language acquisition and understanding in our Latin curricula. This is achieved by focusing on grammatical understanding and fluency while deemphasizing vocabulary and core cultural/historical content within Latin Academy.
The purpose of Latin Academy is twofold. First and foremost, it provides an efficient and individually student tailored opportunity to integrate incoming students into the rigorous Latin program at Covenant. Secondly, it offers current students a chance to review or remediate their Latin education during the summer. Due to the intensive material and pace, class size may be limited on a first-come-first-serve basis with priority given to new, transferring students.
