Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon

The discovery of electricity was a long process of discovering pieces of God's handwork in creation. By getting "up close and personal" with it, we are catching a glimpse of God's revelation of himself to us through his created order! In this camp, participants will retrace a few of those great moments in our discovery of electricity. Along the way, they will make at least three different functioning batteries from scratch, learn to harness the power of static electricity to levitate objects and move others, create circuits with homemade "play-doh" clay, design an electromagnet, craft dozens of gadgets using rather robust sets of Snap Circuits, and a few surprises along the way. This week is guaranteed to be hair raising! (...unless 400,000 volts isn't enough...)Campers will get their hands dirty as they experience the sometimes explosive, sometimes loud, and sometimes disgusting world of scientific exploration! Participants will, in closely supervised groups, perform daily experiments using materials and methods common in the professional scientist's world. They will walk away with a new perspective on creation as well as a better understanding of common lab procedures and practices that will definitely come in handy as they make their way through our Upper School Science program. (They will also walk away with all of their fingers and toes!)

Latin Academy provides an efficient and individually student-tailored opportunity to integrate incoming students into our school's Latin program. It also offers current students a chance to review during the summer. Due to the intensive material and pace, class size may be limited on a first-come-first-serve basis with priority given to new, transferring students. Questions about Latin Academy?
