Covenant Classical School tied for third place at the Texas High School Mock Trial competition in Dallas on March 7, 2015. Covenant faced the best teams from 28 regions around the state.
The team consisted of juniors Tommy Benke, Victor Fontenot, Collin Fredricks, David McCarty, Jacob Salter, Will Scheffrahn, and Charis Watt, sophomore Bryce McDonald, and freshmen Thomas Burgess and Nate Fredricks. The team was coached by faculty member Jeanette Faulkner, as well as volunteer attorney coaches Josh Burgess and Scott Fredricks.
Student attorneys present opening and closing statements, and use an abbreviated form of the Federal Rules of Evidence while conducting direct and cross examinations. Student witnesses must master a fact statement and submit to direct and cross examinations in those roles. This year, the students argued a criminal case involving manslaughter.
